Milko, Pietro, Teresina and Marietta are best friends, with a strong sense of justice. They are brave and resourceful. Their only worry is not doing enough for others, especially for those who are weaker or left out.

Milko is completely deaf. Pietro uses a wheelchair. Teresina sometimes feels trapped in her body, heavy and clumsy. Marietta lets herself be overcome by the fear of not making it when she faces life's obstacles. They are the superheroes of the story: they turn their differences into their powers.

The adventures are made up, but the characters are inspired by real students of the academy: Emanuela Annini inspired Teresina, Tiziano Donnici inspired Pietro.

The project

The comic is produced by L'Arte nel Cuore. It is drawn by Vincenzo Lomanto, a graduate of the Scuola Internazionale di Comics in Rome, with texts by Andrea Giovalè, a graduate of the Scuola Romana dei Fumetti.

It aims to present disability as a value and to make people think about inclusion. It is also designed for schools, as an educational tool against cultural barriers. And it creates work: it offers professional opportunities to young people with and without disabilities.
