Four Energy Heroes: the comic about superheroes with and without disabilities that smashes barriers is born

The publication by L'Arte nel Cuore and Bardi Edizioni is launched and will be distributed in the Città del Sole shops across Italy

Marietta is a girl who, thanks to her heightened sensitivity, has developed a sixth sense: perceiving other people's thoughts. Milko is a boy who has lost his hearing but has compensated for it so much that he can perceive, even miles away, every call for help and sounds imperceptible to the rest of the world. Teresina, a girl with Down syndrome, feels trapped in her heavy, clumsy body, which she makes up for with an outgoing, impetuous character. Pietro has motor paralysis of the lower limbs and therefore uses a wheelchair; he is the leader of the group and a super-fast hero on board his chair.

They are Empathy, Sonar, Comet and Supernova, the four main characters of Four Energy Heroes, the world's first comic starring superheroes with and without disabilities who are able to turn their differences into their most powerful gifts to help the weak and the marginalised. While the first two characters are pure fantasy, Teresina and Pietro were inspired by two real-life friends, both students of the L'Arte nel Cuore Academy, Emanuela Annini and Tiziano Donnici. The publishing project with their adventures, now finally published as a comic, drawn by the young illustrator Vicenzo Lomanto and written by a young author, Andrea Giovalè, comes from an idea by Daniela Alleruzzo**, Founder and President of the Academy, the world's first arts education project for young people with and without disabilities, committed to nurturing talents that struggle to develop and emerge because of their disability. She comments: “Today we are able to give new impetus to the challenge on disability we launched 12 years ago, with targeted projects that move towards inclusion and the breaking down of the barriers of prejudice. Representing disability as added value, as a resource, is the only keystone able to bring about a cultural change in the country”.

The publication (price 6 euros, with the proceeds going to the association, which will reinvest them to make a television series), printed by Bardi Edizioni, will be distributed, starting in Rome and Milan the week before Christmas and in the other cities by Epiphany, in the 16 shops owned by Città del Sole, an important cultural and business organisation which, since its foundation in 1972, has promoted initiatives supporting children's rights, the empowerment of and respect for people with disabilities, and the fight against social inequality and gender discrimination, working from time to time alongside associations such as Action Aid, Medici senza Frontiere and Terre des Hommes. The comic can also be bought online at www.bardiedizioni.it.
